Its about time we ran our first tournament.
Bench Tournament, Easter Sunday. Be there 2pm sharp.
A "bench" is polo played in a similar manner to other goalsports. Gameplay is virtually the same except games are timed and have no goal limit.
Teams will be selected on the day and remain the same for the whole tournament.
Teams will have somewhere between 5 and 8 members (may revise this depending on who turns up).
3 members from each side start the game with the rest of the team on the bench.
You can sub on and off at anytime as long as there are a maximum three members on the court.
New rule: If a player scores a goal then they must sub off. (this rule designed to stop one player dominating on a court with multiple skill levels).
Games will be two 15 -20minute halves.
Each team will play each other team once.
Teams will be ranked on goals scored/conceded.
The two top teams will playoff in a final match for the Holy Grail of Bikepolo and a slab of piss.
There may be other prizes too
Pick-up matches afterwards if there is enough light/personal energy
See you on Sunday, nice and early, rain, hail or shine.

Time to sharpen up
Bike polo is going off in Adelaide! We have now played twice at the new venue with the full edging. This has improved game play remarkably and turnout has been really great. Sweeeet!
So polo is on this Sunday at 2pm as usual. See the map in the previous post for the location if you havent been. Bring your bike, mallets provided.
I still have a few mallet heads and shafts for people to grab. Also have some more skipoles for $2 each. Strong and light.
Standby for an announcement regarding the Australian Bike Polo Championship Tournament...

We're Still Here
For no excuse other than laziness the site has been a bit quiet for a couple of months. However, polo in Adelaide has been going well with fantastic rambling games held on the first and third Sundays the last couple of months. We have been scorched, blasted and soaked but the level of skill is streets ahead of where we were.
This next Sunday, being the first in April, polo will be played at 2pm. The Gawler Street location has been a great central meeting spot so there are even less excuses for not coming along to watch or play.

Anyone for a game
Let there be bicycle polo in Adelaide. And so it came to be that the website for the Adelaide Bicycle Polo Club was created.
Welcome. You are probably this site/blogs first viewer and, perhaps, second player.
ONE LESS HORSE
Bicycle Polo is the mechanised equivalent of traditional polo with far fewer rules. 3 cyclists per team formed on the day, played on hard court, with frequent stops to sip coffee or swill beer. Any bike is a candidate (but don't bring your $10K carbon roady) and any cyclist can be a mallet wielding player. Cycle couriers, commuters, mountainbikers, track hounds, sunday streeters.. Bike polo is not just another way to hit a ball through goal posts, it is a collective of those who appreciate the diversity and social aspects of bicycle culture.
Bike polo has been played in a reasonably organised fashion in Melbourne for about a year and is taking off.
http://www.bikepolo.com.au
You can find much information there about rules and such.
Adelaide Bike Polo is in its infancy and is on a recruitment drive.
If you are interested in playing in this very casual and laid back sport, most likely on sunday afternoons in an as-yet-undetermined inner city carpark/netball court send a quick message or questions to
bikepolo.adelaide@gmail.com
and to be on the mailing list.
I will be updating this from time to time with more information and tidbits. If you feel so inclined, subscribe to the feed.
Neil.
