Due to a clash with the upcoming CX season, we're shifting our mid-week polo sessions from Thursdays to Tuesdays.

~~For this week, and this week only, we'll meet at the Ed Castle (Currie St) around 6pm, and then head to Adelaide High.~~
Every other week we'll meet at the Exeter (Rundle St) and then play at Wakefield.

SYD Bench tourney, No polo this weekend

Good luck to all the Adelaide players heading to Sydney this weekend for the Bench Tournament. This will be the first time most of them will have played this format of polo. It will be interesting to hear their stories on their return.
The draw and teams information are posted on bikepolo.com.au.

Because we are down in numbers this weekend we are going to cancel polo again on Sunday. We will play a weeknight session on Thursday (10th) from about 6pm instead.

Normal games will resume Sunday week (13th) from 2pm.

Kat from pOLOHOLICA was recently in Radelaide and decided to contact us for a game of polo. Unfortunately she wasn't able to stay for our usual Sunday session, so we threw together a very last minute casual game on Saturday.

The sun was beating down and most of us were destroyed from the TDU MCC the day before, but we hardly cared; it was great to play with and learn from an experienced polo player.

Thanks to everyone who came out at such short notice, especially Ben for bringing a spare bike but mostly to Kat for contacting us and playing some kick-ass polo. See you in Seattle!

New eighth inch mallet heads

Eighth Inch has just announced V2 of their prefab mallet heads. They're using a new material which should stop the splitting issues seen on original heads, but unfortunately the head weight remains unchanged at 120g. They do have a lightweight tournament mallet in the works based on a whole new design, so it'll be interesting to see how that ends up.

Terrible Two's Throwup Tournament Day 2 Results

Day Two of the tournament was a variation on a throw up tournament. Each player was assigned to a bracket based on their level of experience and where they came from. A player was selected from each bracket by the 'wheel of misfortune' to form a team. The results of each game were then recorded against each player, with prizes going to the top player from each braket. At the end of the day the scoreboard looked like this:

A sausage sizzle and game of footdown followed giving everyone a chance to relax before it was time to find out the tournament champion. Colin and Damon were both undefeated with 6 wins, so in order to decide they each selected a team mate and a 2 v 2 match was held. Damon teamed up with Vive, and Colin with Chris. After an amazing match which had the crowd on the edge of their milk crates, Damon and Vive came out victorious, earning the Damon the tournament title and the wondrous mallet of amazing awesomeness.

A special thanks to Crumpler for providing the awesome prizes, and to everyone who helped throughout the weekend, especially; Colin for organising everything. Richard for your help on Saturday making sure court 2 was playable. Neil, Steph and Ben for providing the water, ice, shade/cover, eskies, edging etc. Rob for the 'how to run a kickass polo tournament' advice throughout the weekend. Everyone who helped umpire/time games. Canon for not making me feel too bad when I stuffed up the results and didn't notice you should have come equal first in your bracket. Everyone who came from interstate (especially Prawi for coming all the way from Perth) for trusting us to put on a worthwhile weekend, and everyone else for rocking up and making it a worthwhile weekend :-) Looking forward to an even bigger and better event in May!

A Weekend Full of Polo

Just a friendly reminder that we're hosting the Terrible Two's Throw-up Tournament this weekend to celebrate two years of bike polo in Adelaide!

Saturday will start at 12 with a mix of team based games and friendly pick-up - we'll finish up the night with a visit to a couple of local establishments.

The main throw-up tournament will start on Sunday at 10am, continuing through the afternoon and concluding with a BBQ at a secret location (to be advised on the day).

Seattle to Host 2011 Worlds

Seattle has just been announced as the host city for the 2011 Bike Polo World Championships to be held in September/October. The tournament will consist of 48 teams (down from 64 in Berlin), 16 from NA, 16 from Europe, 8 decided in a prelim tournament, and the remaining 8 divided between everyone else. More details available on the League of Bike Polo.

Thought it was time for a little update from the dark side of the globe.
It's getting cold over here and as such the play is going indoors, in fact there have been indoor tournaments the last two weekends. The last was in Konstanz, unfortunately I couldn't get there (Halloween in Berlin meant 3x alleycats followed by parties, sometimes polo get relegated), by all accounts it sounded like a great time.
The first was Polomotion in Utrecht, The Netherlands; this one I did have the pleasure of attending. I had the honour of playing there with guys that some of you may remember: Nicky and Chris from Antwerp Fixed.

The tournament was hosted in a hall of one of Europe's largest bike trade fairs: Bike Motion. This meant that we were inside in the warmth, had a steady crowed of interested onlookers all day, and could wander around the halls drooling over all the bike porn between games.

Although there was only one court, each of the 26 teams managed 6 games and finals for the top 8. Unfortunately we, The Antwerp Diamonds, narrowly missed out on making the cut: we reached equal 8th but lost out on goal difference.

Nicky , Chris and Thomas: our most generous host and either a Teddy bear, or Grizzly bear, it was never settled.

Utrecht was a beautiful city, one that has embraced the bicycle more than any other I have visited. Seeing middle class families riding along in convoy was a heartening sight, along with the numerous beautiful women on bikes!

Thursday westside polo down by the beach turn up at 6:30ish bring your bike and mallet. Location may be variable, with nice casual ride out. Meet at Sam's with the possibility of raiding her delicious food containment vessel (fridge).

It was a very wet sunday session, but the desire to play polo prevailed and we battled on despite the elements and the risk of losing a player to the depths of the ever growing lake in the north-east corner of the court. Perhaps it was the cold, or possibly the beer, but I could have sworn I saw a fish in there... or maybe it was just Steve...

With our star players competing for world domination in Berlin and a handful of regulars not able to play this weekend polo is cancelled for this Sunday, 15th Aug.

The weather forecast was looking shite anyway.

To celebrate our anticipated success at the worlds we will resume normal weekly games on Sunday 22nd August, at our 1pm winter time.

Perennial die hard polo personality S. Kirby (aka Solid7) has bought himself a new technotoy and to celebrate the purchase he decided to enter the "Sunday Mail" recent video competition. I am not sure if his entry was received on time and unfortunately I don't think Mr S Kirby made the finalists if he did, nonetheless he has put together a great photo montage/video piece around the recent B&N race and Sunday arvo polo.

Skinny jeans (black of course), flannelette shirts, and 80's sunglasses took center stage a few weeks back as we set out to honour our travelling polo companion Dan. A relatively small turnout didn't hinder the fun as we tried Dan's very own rotating 5 style of play. A special thanks to Steve for coming up with the idea and sponsoring the day and congratulations to Alex winning a lovely set of riding glasses!

Tweed Run

Adelaide's first tweed run is set to go off this sunday at 12PM. 'OH NO!' I hear you cry, 'that will clash with polo!'. Yes, yes it will. Fortunately, we're a loving bunch and have extended a warm welcome to the tweed clad gentlefolk who will be finishing their ride at the courts. So if you feel like getting a bit dapper, you're more than welcome to head out on your velocipedes for a gentle jaunt around this fair city. Otherwise, the courts will be setup from 1pm as per usual.

Once the tweedies finish their ride and join us, we'll fire up a bbq (some food provided) and put on a nice pot of complimentary hot tea! We'll also have some beginner only matches, and a few hardcourt clashes to entertain our yesteryear companions.

San Diego

I was down in San Diego over the weekend and managed to find my way out to join in with the local polo crew. It was a small turnout with only 5 players out there, myself included, but we played a rotating game with 5 players [when the team with 3 scored, the scorer would switch teams.
They were very welcoming to the new guy and I even managed to score a few goals against them!
It was a great afternoon with some fun polo and awesome guys. Thanks lads!
